Lovely views across open countryside, and the toilet and shower were very clean. We stayed at the CL Campsite, which sits behind the working farm, reached by going through the yard. The welcome was fantastic, friendly and informative. Buxton Brewery Tap House is about 20 minutes across the fields and serves bar snacks.

We spent 4 days and 3 nights in the Shavings for our 1st wedding anniversary and couldn't fault it. It was a clean, tidy little retreat with thoughtful touches that lots of places miss. There were even Champagne flutes in the cupboard for our bubbly. Lucie & Andrew were brilliant hosts, from the cheerful welcome to saying hello when we crossed paths in the yard, and giving us a friendly send-off. The farm's chickens laid delicious fresh eggs for us. We'd happily recommend staying here and reckon we'll be back before too long.

We were 11, and the downstairs bedrooms and bathrooms suited us really well. Upstairs, the kitchen was well equipped, with an enormous lounge and a smaller separate room for anyone wanting to watch something different. The owners were friendly and helpful, and sold fresh eggs from their chickens. It's tucked away but only about 10 minutes from Buxton, with footpaths through nearby fields. A handy base for local attractions: Chatsworth house is 30 minutes away, Matlock Bath 35 minutes, and our longest drive, to Drayton Manor, took 1 hour 30 minutes.

The showers and toilets are superb, and the owners are welcoming and always happy to stop for a chat, even while running the farm and accommodation businesses. You'll struggle to find a better CL around the peaks. We've stayed several times and plan to come back every year.

The new owners are lovely and friendly. I left my new fleece in the field when I departed, and they posted it to me, thanks Lucy. I like this kind of Certified Location with the Caravan & Motorhome Club: a field behind a working farm, with electricity points and water in the field. They added a toilet and shower block in the camping field. It was extremely clean and had plenty of hot water. The field isn't huge, but I didn't find the pitches too small, despite what some people have said. I stayed here some years ago, before these owners took over, and I still really like Cowdale. It's peaceful, close to lovely countryside, and Buxton is just up the road. I'll come back.
