The food was good, which is the main thing, and breakfast was excellent, with plenty of local produce. The chef and proprietor was chatty when taking our order and let us swap a couple of items, which we appreciated. The place was spotless, with smart, contemporary decor. Parking looked manageable, with spots opposite and along the street where there were no double yellow lines. The first welcome from the husband and wife proprietors felt a bit abrupt, so we chose to eat upstairs.

I tried a lovely white chocolate slice yesterday, then came back today for a bacon and egg bap. It’s a pleasant family-run little cafe and takeaway, with homemade and local products. There’s no outdoor seating, but it’s well ventilated, with tables both upstairs and downstairs.

The granola with yoghurt and berries was delicious, and the service was friendly and welcoming. It’s a lovely little cafe. The homemade cakes all looked incredible, too. A sweet breakfast option like pancakes or waffles could improve the menu, but there was a good range already, so I didn’t mind.

At The Roost on Saturday 23rd, there was a wait for our drinks, but we weren’t bothered. They insisted on giving us two of their wonderful scones for free because of it. The service was good, the food excellent, and the place comfortable. Highly recommended, as is Tideswell.

After a walk, we stopped in for a snack at this busy little spot in the heart of Tideswell. The cakes were lovely and generously sized. My vanilla latte was a little short on vanilla, or perhaps had none at all, but that wouldn’t put us off coming back. The staff were all friendly and efficient.
