The room was well prepared and consistently clean, and the communal spaces had everything we needed. We especially liked the blankets on the sofas. The shower was a standout, probably one of the best we’ve used. This stay felt more like having a private Airbnb than a hostel, and was easily the most comfortable and enjoyable one we’ve had in a while. We hope to return.

Everything was spotless, and the showers were good, though there’s no changing space. You have to get dressed where the men are going to the toilet, wrap a towel around yourself, or change in your room. The hostel is on a quiet lane, with local shops just over a mile away. In town there’s a pub, an Indian takeaway, a Chinese and a chip shop. I’d go to the pub, as the locals are friendly and share advice and stories about the area. The large tarmac car park works fine for motorcycles. The kitchen has the usual hostel amenities, and food and drinks are available using an honesty box.

The kitchen was clean and had what we needed, with basics like milk, jam, cereal and tea available through an honesty box. It was all thoughtfully arranged for families too: toys by the sofas made a small play area in sight of the kitchen, handy while I cooked or washed up with the kids. I stayed with my children, aged four and six, and the room with two bunks and an ensuite was clean, spacious enough, and everything worked. The WiFi was free and useful, and it was quiet at night. Check-in was easy and welcoming, and the questions I sent beforehand were answered straight away. A brilliant find, and I’ll definitely return if I’m in the area.

I stayed overnight after coming back from Ireland by ferry. There’s plenty of free parking, and my ensuite room was well laid out with a comfortable bed. The shared kitchen and sitting and dining area had basic supplies like tea, coffee and milk on an honesty box basis, plus fridges, a freezer and food storage for cooking your own meals. A local Co-Op is a short drive away. It’s a peaceful place, with guinea fowl, chickens and alpacas in the grounds, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Excellent value, with single and twin rooms available.
