Westminster College offers guest rooms and dining for conferences and academic events, which is why it may show up as a hotel on Google Maps. It’s mainly an academic institution, though, with a long history in education and teacher training. Founded in 1851, it moved to Cambridge in 1899. The buildings were damaged in the Second World War and rebuilt in the 1950s, leaving a mix of historic and mid-20th-century architecture. Its attractive grounds sit a little away from the busiest city areas, giving it a calm, reflective feel. It’s an interesting visit for anyone drawn to Cambridge’s educational heritage, and also a useful conference venue or place for a short stay.

Westminster College isn’t a visitor destination. Its historic features are for members, not tourists. If you want ancient rooms open to the public in Cambridge, look to the University Colleges, such as the medieval dining halls at Trinity Hall or Corpus Christi, the Old Library at St John's, or the Saxon-era crypt at St Peter's Church near the castle.

A lovely place to stay in either summer or winter, with nice staff and fairly well-kept rooms. The lawns and gardens are lovely, too. It’s a pleasant walk into town, through one of the most beautiful stretches around. From this end of town, you can stroll to everything each day, either behind the place or along the main road with its shops.

The breakfast was especially good, and staff were generally friendly and helpful. I attended a conference at Westminster College, a lovely area near the centre of Cambridge, though parking is very limited, which makes it difficult for busy people driving to a conference. Our room was pleasant and everything worked as expected, apart from the shower. The water kept shifting between a little too hot and too cold, apparently because the cold water pressure changed every few seconds. It made the shower impossible to enjoy. I’d attend another conference there, but I wouldn’t recommend staying in the accommodation.

The new Sunday lunch at Westminster College made for a great experience. We ate in the college’s prestigious, library-like dining room, a perfect setting. Service was attentive and excellent, and our beef roasts were delicious and nicely presented. The gigantic Yorkshire puddings were a definite highlight. Stuart, the Head of hospitality, and his well-trained team looked after us so well. I’d recommend it for a special occasion or just a Sunday lunch out, and we’ll definitely return. Thank you.
