The rooms are very good, the staff are lovely, and the place is well kept and well located. The whisky selection is strong too. Food was the letdown: reasonably priced, but standard bought-in pub grub. The mussels starter tasted lovely, though there were only about 9 in a portion. There wasn't any cask ale available in April 2026, either. And the music was that same vapid modern pop you hear on Clyde 1, think Bieber and Ed Sheeran 🤮.

I've always eaten here when I've been in the past, and it's been excellent every time. The food isn't over-seasoned, and the staff are really friendly. I'll be staying overnight for the first time in four weeks. The ferry timetable means I'll have to leave very early, but I'm looking forward to a nice evening there beforehand!

Lunch cost £48 for two battered Haddock, peas and chips, plus two glasses of Pinot. The young waitress was very polite and still in training. It's expensive, but I suppose that's hotel prices. I'd have tried the fish and chip shop next time, except it was shut because, apparently, the season was over 🙈🙁🤔

The whisky bar is world renowned, with so much to choose from. If you enjoy whisky, I'd thoroughly recommend a visit just for that. Our stay was an unplanned part of the trip after Storm Floris disrupted our camping. It was hard finding somewhere at short notice that would take a dog, but the proprietor of the Ardshiel went out of her way to help us. We were welcomed so warmly and treated like family. I think they fell in love with young Ziggy labrador. We had a lovely, relaxed time there, and if we could have afforded it, I think we'd have stayed much longer.

The Tam o' Shanter burger and my wife's Roast Beef with Veg were both really tasty, and I'd recommend either. We came for a meal, so I can't comment on the rooms. We'd read online that the hotel wasn't dog friendly and expected to sit in the garden, but the waitress kindly said we could bring our dog inside if it started raining. Thanks for a great meal and such warm surroundings.
