The location was fabulous, and the owner gave us useful parking advice when we arrived. Our family room had lovely decor, and I’d happily come back to Abbey Guesthouse and recommend it. There were a few practical drawbacks. We had no kettle, just two small sugar sachets for four people, and nowhere to hang clothes. Everyone also had to cross the double bedroom to reach the bathroom. The bath was lovely, though there was no shower, and we could hear people walking overhead in the converted house.

The bathroom was pretty chilly, which is why I’ve taken off a star. Otherwise, I’d happily stay again. We were close to St Dunstans town center, with loads of good dinner spots within walking distance. I’d been a bit unsure after reading some reviews, and the outside of the building didn’t do much to reassure me, but the room was great. The four-poster bed was really comfortable, and we had a tea and coffee machine, a jacuzzi bath that was more fun than I expected, plus plenty of soft towels and toiletries.

The location was great, just a minute from Canterbury West, and the bed was comfortable. We also had a jacuzzi bath. We were able to check in early for our one-night stay, which helped. Communication was the sticking point. The owner didn’t answer when we called with a few questions, and when we asked about checking out late, we were told we had to leave because he was going out. That felt a little unprofessional. The place is good for what it is, so ignore the one-star reviews, but the lack of communication cost it a star. If you’re reading this, please answer the phone!

We had a warm, peaceful stay in a comfortable en suite room. The bed was cosy, and it was a relaxing place to spend the weekend. My girlfriend and I would definitely come back. The guesthouse is right in the middle of Canterbury, just up from the station, so getting around was easy.

The coffee machine was much appreciated, and I wasn’t expecting the jacuzzi, but it was a welcome surprise. The room decor was a bit hit or miss. For a short stay, it did the job well, with a comfortable enough bed and plenty of towels.
