The Rose And Crown

The location worked well for seeing Kent. We caught a bus just outside to the south coast or Canterbury, which suited us for day drinking. We stayed at the Rose & Crown for two nights with our dog, and the whole team were friendly and accommodating. The pub has a lovely local feel. Both breakfast and our evening meal were delicious, high-quality, well-cooked and nicely presented. Our room was huge, clean and well equipped. Good dog-friendly places can be hard to find, so we’d highly recommend the Rose & Crown.

The Sunday lunch was delicious and there was plenty of it, but the dining room was sparse, cold and draughty. We were told the fire is usually lit at 8 a.m., but it hadn’t been lit early enough for our visit. The extra heaters weren’t nearly enough for a room that size. We were able to move to a table by the log fire, which helped, but later diners had no choice but to sit with their coats on. As we left through the bar, we noticed it was much warmer there. I wish we’d been offered a table in that room, as it would have made the experience much nicer.

The room was a lovely size, and breakfast was fresh, tasty and incredible. From the friendly staff, owner and manager to the cosy, beautiful, relaxing pub atmosphere, everything made us feel welcome during our weekend stay. Martin and the team should be very proud of what they’ve achieved at the Rose & Crown in such a short time. Everyone was so accommodating and lovely, including Traveller the border terrier.
