Castle view

We arrived, saw the room, and left less than 15 minutes later. It was dirty, the bed hadn't been changed, and both the room and toilet stank. The room had no window, like a one-hour knocking shop. There was no kitchen, and the front desk was the chicken shop downstairs. We were told to leave the keys in the post box. I wouldn't recommend this place even to someone homeless, and it shouldn't be open. Good luck trying to get a refund. The man we spoke to was very rude and kept referring to a notice the chicken shop hadn't given us. For reference, the keys have to be returned within 30 minutes for a full refund, paid through the chicken shop. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2017, that's your entitlement. If there is a problem, contact Trading Standards, as we did.

It's been a year since we stayed at Castle view, but the disastrous experience is still clear. The room was dirtier than public toilets, and although the views are great, it was hard to see them through a dirty, mouldy window. The shower didn't work. The owner first assured us a plumber was coming to fix it, then blamed us, saying we didn't know how to use the shower. What a ridiculous thing to say. If you're going to try some tasty chicken from downstairs, bring a dozen toilet rolls just to be safe. Kind regards

Don't book. The building smelled like weed, and the room I was shown looked like a horror film set. It was disgusting, so I ran out and abandoned it. I was locked inside without a key to get out. The floor and linen were dirty, the furniture was falling apart, and the cup was filthy. This place should be condemned. I feel I would have been killed by morning if I'd stayed.

At £100, we could have booked a lovely Premier Inn room with breakfast. Instead, we got a disgusting room and nothing else. We couldn't stay or sleep in the dirty bed, and after handing the keys back, we couldn't find anything else at short notice. It spoiled our weekend. The room was advertised as a 'deluxe double room', but that was nowhere near true. It was above a takeaway chicken shop, where we had to collect the keys, which was the first warning sign. Inside, there was no carpet, just lino that had been mopped and left soaking with puddles. The bed linen was dirty. The poor decor had holes in the walls that had been roughly filled and left unpainted. There was one old DIY wardrobe, plus two bottles of water and plastic beakers left in the window to get warm. On top of all that, the room stank of cannabis. Avoid at all costs. Dirty, smelly and disgusting.
