Crofts Hotel

I only used the bar, not the accommodations. Popped into the Croft for a drink with friends and found a friendly atmosphere, attentive staff, and good service. There was a nice selection of beers, wines, and spirits. I’d certainly go back.

What makes this place appealing to me is that the rooms are above a backstreet pub in Roath, a real part of the city I know from living in Cardiff 20 years. I’d much rather stay there than in one of the anonymous chains downtown. The Crofts is on a quiet street, close to the busy, lively City Road and Albany Road, and about a 15-minute walk from the centre. I stayed one night and was very happy with the choice. The room was exceptionally clean and outstanding value. I’ve paid many times more for worse rooms. The woman I spoke to was friendly and helpful, and the booking platform’s excellent reviews felt completely deserved. I’m pleased the pub has done so well and would happily stay again :)

The room was small but immaculate, with a great shower, and street parking was right outside the hotel. Staff were very friendly, and breakfast was lovely. I had a very nice stay at the Crofts and would definitely return.

Parking can be tricky: there’s limited space outside the hotel, and most of the area is permit holders only. If there’s a spot free right outside, you can use it. I managed to grab one as someone was leaving. My door code didn’t work on either the main entrance or my room, but staff fixed it when I asked. After that, everything was comfortable and snug. The twin room had two double beds, so it felt both spacious and cosy. The bed was so, so comfortable, and the spotless bathroom smelled fresh. The shower was just the right temperature with good pressure. Staff greeted me with a smile, and I had a good laugh with one of them while looking for parking. It was quiet at night. Veezu taxis were prompt and affordable, with friendly drivers. My trip between the hotel and Utilita Arena was about £7.50 one way. I’d definitely stay here again for an overnight visit to Cardiff.
