Room 9 was large, lovely, and very clean, with a fabulous en-suite and a comfortable bed. It got so hot, though, with no fan provided, and we couldn’t open the other window. Being on a busy road also made it noisy. Breakfast was a disappointment, though that might be on me: I assumed 'breakfast included ' meant a cooked breakfast, but it was continental only. Still, on the whole, we enjoyed our stay.

The website photos make this place look much better than it is. I paid £180 for one night for a Cardiff function, though I’m not sure if the rugby the next day affected the price. The room had a single bed, blinds that didn’t cover the bottom of the window, no curtains, a toilet bolt hanging off the wall, a cracked TV screen, and generally worn surroundings. They couldn’t provide a full breakfast the next morning because of the rugby, so we walked to the local cafe Brava, which was superb. I felt sorry for the French fans staying there, since they must think Cardiff rips people off. I’d have felt cheated even at £50 a night. Horrible place, don’t bother, there are much better places to stay in Cardiff.

If you arrive in the rain, call ahead. There’s no staff on site, so you might have to wait a couple of minutes. The bed was comfortable, but the room felt a bit tired, with frayed carpet that didn’t quite fit and a crack in the wall. The shower head wouldn’t stay up.

A very pleasant stay and good value for money. The room had high ceilings, a large double bed, and a big en-suite bathroom. The bed was comfortable, and there was a good choice at the continental breakfast. The bedroom TV was a smart TV with internet access to YouTube and Netflix. Usual room things were there too, hair dryer, kettle, coffee and tea.

Dexby Townhouse is on Cathedral Road, about a 10-minute walk from Cardiff Town centre. The room was clean and tidy, and the en-suite was impressive for the budget price. Customer service was good, breakfast was lovely, and I slept very well.
