ibis budget Cardiff Centre

We had a fantastic weekend at £38/night. The location is great, about a five-minute walk from the City Centre and seven minutes on foot from where the coach arrives. For a budget hotel, this ibis goes well beyond what I expected. The double room was a reasonable size, with an excellent shower, and enough space if you're mostly sleeping or using the internet. Staff were kind and considerate. Breakfast was £6 a head for all you can eat when I visited. Five stars for service, mostly because I didn't expect much from a budget place, but we still got more than we paid for. Thanks to everyone.

The staff were lovely throughout, polite, practical, and happy to help with anything. The continental breakfast was good, and the dining area was very clean and cared for. The room, though, was tiny for three people and a dog. The toilet felt very cramped unless you’re short and slim, while the shower had loads of space. It might have made more sense the other way around.

I booked for one night to go to a concert at a nearby arena. The location worked well, about a 10-minute walk from Central Station and within easy walking distance of Cardiff center. There’s also a Co-op across the road for snacks or a quick meal. Check-in and checkout were both quick, and the staff were friendly. The room was small but cozy, with the shower and sink in the room and a separate little toilet. Both spaces are quite tight, so they might be uncomfortable for a larger person. Although it was a Friday, when higher prices make sense, I still felt the cost was above what I’d expect from a “Budget” hotel for what it offered. A decent option if you won’t spend much time in the room.

The staff were really friendly, and the hotel is close to the town centre. The room wasn’t dirty, but for £210 for two nights I didn’t think the quality justified the price. It was very basic and cramped, with a toilet barely big enough to turn around in. The shower kept alternating between hot and cold, so I gave up on showering, and its nearly see-through door offered very little privacy. I slept on the top bunk, but the mattress was so thin, more like a toddler’s mattress than a proper single, that I had a terrible night’s sleep.
