Parklane Guest House

The location suited my plans perfectly, and there was plenty of street parking. I arrived late, though, so I couldn’t get access to the private parking. The room was comfortable but small, and the place felt more like a house of multiple occupation than a guest house. Service was nonexistent.

The place is quiet, and the beds are fine for the budget, but the rooms are small and there aren’t any chairs. Parking was full, so I had to leave the car on another street about a 5-10 minute walk away. The booking didn’t make it clear that parking was first come, first served. Also, there’s no shampoo or conditioner, so bring your own if you plan to shower.

The cost really doesn’t tell the whole story. I’ve stayed in places that charged a lot more and didn’t come close to what Parklaneguesthouse offers. Kathy and her staff make you feel welcome, the whole place is spotless, and your room gets cleaned and supplied with fresh towels, tea and coffee every day. The price and facilities are so good that I’m happy to walk 45 minutes to work in the morning. Don’t pass it by. Stephen

The bed, mattress and duvet were fine, but the room was so cramped I had to squeeze in just to put my feet up. I paid £99 for a tiny room and an even tinier bathroom, with a temperamental door that needed a shove to open. There was no shampoo or body wash in the shower, which is shocking at that price. Even a small bottle of cheap shower gel would have helped. Breakfast wasn’t included either. I wasn’t expecting The Ritz, but for that money I’d at least expect a meal option; I’ve stayed in hotels £20 cheaper that offered a continental breakfast. It’s overpriced, far too small and short on facilities. I wouldn’t pay £50 for it.
