The Safehouse Hostel

The evening events were a fun way to meet people, especially as a solo traveller like me. There are tours every day too, though I didn’t join one. I’d happily stay again if I came back to Cardiff. I stayed two nights. The hostel was clean, the staff were all friendly and the beds were pretty nice. Even in the 12-person dorm I felt like I had plenty of space, though I wasn’t sharing a bunk and there weren’t many people in the room, so I’m not sure how it would feel when full. The showers weren’t great, and without a divider it was easy to get water on my clothes. The shower on my floor was broken, so I had to use the one downstairs. Since there weren’t many people around, that wasn’t much of an issue. The room Wi-Fi was also hit or miss, working really well on some days and not giving me a signal on others. Those were minor complaints, so four out of five.

This was my first hostel stay, and I love this place so much that I’d choose it over most hotels. The location is prime, the building is beautiful, and it has an interesting history going back to the early 1900s. The staff and fellow guests were all fantastic. For a solid meal, try Bar 44 just down the street on the same block. It had some of the best tapas I’ve ever had, and the staff there were just as friendly. This block gave me a great introduction to Cardiff.

The Safehouse Hostel is our top choice if we’re in Cardiff again. We stayed one night, and the welcome was friendly, with great energy. We booked a four-bed room, which was lovely, and the showers were clean and tidy. The building has plenty of charm and character, from the stone floors by the kitchenette to the stairs.

A great hostel for the price. The 24-hour staffed reception meant we didn’t have to worry about getting back in after a night out. The beds were comfortable and had individual USB charging ports. The staff were all helpful and accommodating, even when we weren’t being very easy to deal with as a group. We really enjoyed our time there.
