Manor House Hotel and Golf Club

The setting at The Manor House is beautiful, and the pâtisserie and scones were delicious and beautifully presented. The sandwiches were fine too. It's a shame the service fell so far short of the food and surroundings. We were left waiting for long stretches, with nobody checking in despite the “all you can drink tea” offer. When we managed to order more, it could take up to 20 minutes to arrive. Mugs, strainers, and used items weren't replaced every time, and empty plates stayed on the table. The service came across as slow, disorganised, and unprofessional. I've had afternoon tea at quite a few other places, and this was by far the worst service we've experienced. That was surprising given the reputation and price, £48 pp plus a hefty 13% service charge, taking the total well over £100. I don't usually post reviews, but hope the service improves to match the quality of the food and setting. With attentive, timely service, it could have been a wonderful afternoon.

The hotel, grounds, and village were gorgeous, with a cozy atmosphere that made it feel like staying in a manor house rather than a hotel. We visited in January, when it was quiet, which made the place feel even more special. There were several rooms where we could relax, and we loved the welly boots by the front door. If I hadn't been pregnant, we would definitely have used them! We were there for a birthday and our last night away before our baby arrived. On arrival, we were delighted to learn we'd been upgraded. Our room had a lovely box of chocolates and a handwritten note, a thoughtful touch that made the stay extra special and unforgettable. Everyone on staff was friendly and went the extra mile. Dinner and breakfast were both delicious. It was a wonderful stay, and we'll definitely be back.

The meal at Bybrook was unbelievably good, and the staff took such care adapting the menu for our vegan and vegetarian dietary needs. We felt thoroughly spoiled, and it was one of the best meals we'd ever had. The room was spectacular, the service exceptional, and the hotel and restaurant are absolutely stunning. There aren't enough stars for them.

We were welcomed at check-in with thoughtful Christmas touches: a little tree in our room and a hamper of decorations so we could enjoy the festive feeling there. Another basket held treats made both in-house and locally. There were festive trees, wooden reindeer, and lovely fires everywhere. The menus were thoughtfully put together and there was plenty of wine. On Christmas morning, a stocking full of even more treats was waiting outside our room. It was a very special stay at the Manor House, and I'd do it again without hesitation.
