The place smelled lovely as soon as we arrived, and the staff were really friendly. They offered us coffee while we waited to check in, which was a nice touch. Our room was spotless and comfortable, with everything from the bed to the bathroom feeling fresh and clean. We felt welcome and relaxed throughout our stay, and would happily come back.

The hotel is right in the middle of Castle Douglas, close to shops, cafés and other local places to explore. Alex & Liam gave us brilliant service and made sure we had everything we needed from the moment we arrived. We felt at home straight away, and our room was tidy, with tea, coffee and sugar ready for us. We’d definitely recommend the hotel and come back.

The building has had nothing but problems since it opened in November 2023. I’m in the neighbouring pet shop underneath, and water has leaked into my premises repeatedly. On 2 September there was a major flood that caused thousands of pounds’ worth of damage to my stock and shop. Water has come through the walls and damaged the ceiling, and waste water flooded across my stock, including horse feed. I’m still waiting for the insurance details. The owner says they’re confidential, which I think is nonsense given there should be third-party insurance on the building, if they even have building insurance. The owner has several hotels but doesn’t stay in his own, which says a lot to me. Avoid this place. There are much nicer, better-kept premises whose owners take pride in their appearance. What used to be a busy local hotel and bar is now a run-down building with constant issues.

The hotel is right in the town centre and had great internet. My room was very clean, and the staff were nice. I had a wonderful stay and would definitely return.
