Over Christmas 2024, our family of 7 rented the farm cottage and were very pleased with it. There were 5 bedrooms, three bathrooms, a large kitchen with a dining table, a second dining room, two sitting rooms and a hot tub outside. As it was Christmas, unfortunately nothing was open on the caravan site, so I think things would be quite different in summer. The place overlooks the sea, and there’s plenty of sightseeing to do, as well as a trip into newtonstuart with its shops and river running through it. We’d definitely stay again, though I think it’d be in summer.

The kids had a great time, and we all enjoyed our stay at the cottage. It was clean, spacious and had a hot tub. I’d recommend staying there.

The views to the sea were lovely, and we were so glad we spent Christmas in this nicely decorated farmhouse. It has big sofas and plenty of room. Downstairs there’s an entrance hall, dining room, living room, snug, large kitchen diner with a modern kitchen, a large fridge freezer and double oven, plus a shower room with a toilet and sink. Upstairs are a double bedroom with ensuite bathroom, 3 twin rooms, a single bedroom and another shower room with toilet and sink. Outside, there’s parking at the front, an enclosed garden, patio and hot tub. We also walked around the holiday park opposite, which goes down to the sea and has a small beach. The park facilities are included in the stay at Galloway cottages, and there are a few play areas for kids. The shop opposite is handy for essentials and has some good deals. The staff member we spoke to there was lovely and polite. The one downside is the busy A75 can be heard, and if you’re a light sleeper, trucks going to and from the ferry port might wake you. It didn’t spoil our stay, but it’s worth knowing. We had a great time and would definitely recommend it and return.

The hot tub was great, and the place was spacious, very clean and in a great location. The only letdown was the very temperamental WiFi, which made things tricky for the kids’ tablets. Please sort it for parents’ sanity! Even so, we’d have no hesitation about staying again. Brilliant.

This was our third visit, but after the terrible experience this year, I’m not sure we’d return. We’d all gone to bingo at the club and bought wristbands for £5 each. My 10 year old nephew, who is autistic, went to cash in his tokens, then security refused to let him back into the bingo hall because he wasn’t wearing his wristband. He was completely distraught and left outside crying. Why couldn’t the guard have asked him to show where his family was and come and get us, instead of leaving a child crying outside? I reported it to management but haven’t had any feedback.
