The Ivy House

Excellent service rounded off a really enjoyable family dinner. We came on a weekday, and everyone liked their meal. The fish pie, pan-fried cod with bean stew, and chicken, ham and leek pie were all tasty and full of flavour. We’ll definitely be back.

We’d been passing Ivy House most days and finally stopped in after seeing breakfast advertised online. It was nearly empty, but the man behind the bar didn’t greet us. When we asked where we could sit, he gave us little attention, made no eye contact, and offered no real welcome. We were vaguely pointed toward a table without help or explanation. It felt so awkward that we left. A very disappointing first impression.

Dinner and breakfast were both superb, especially the excellent-quality fish pie. The room was spotless, the bed was comfortable, and I slept very well. I arrived around 8 in the evening, but the staff were still welcoming, friendly, attentive, and very helpful. I booked an overnight stay at the Ivy for meetings nearby, and it was brilliant from start to finish. I’d happily stay again. 10/10

The portions were generous, especially the massive adult fish and chips. My wife was impressed by the good range of gluten-free choices, and we all enjoyed the food. The staff were very friendly, and it has a nice old pub feel inside. I took my family for lunch and hopefully we’ll go again.
