County Hotel Chelmsford

The rooms were warm and comfortable. We skipped breakfast because it seemed a bit expensive. The location was handy, close to the train and bus stations and about a 10-minute walk from the city centre.

The room was big and clean, though there was a cigarette burn on the bedside table. It was above the kitchen and its bins, and a bright light stayed on all night, lighting up the room and making it hard to sleep. When I mentioned the noise, the staff were great and helpful, and moved me to another room.

We stayed for two nights with our wedding guests because our venue had no accommodation. The rooms were more like 3-star standard and could probably do with a refurb, but the service was 10-star. I've never had such professional and friendly service at a hotel. Andra and Yulia were especially accommodating with my wedding stress and last-minute guest bookings. Please give them a raise! We came for a relaxed lunch and to see whether the place would work for a business meeting next Friday. We both loved the venue, and it seems very convenient for meetings. Parking was excellent. I have a blue badge, and there were adequate parking and toilet facilities. I'm not steady on my feet, but the concrete car park and slightly raised decking both worked for me, and the thresholds weren't an issue. We chose the comfortable bar rather than the dining room this time. The service was laid-back. We had butternut squash, sourdough with butter, and two coffees. The food was reasonably priced, the surroundings pleasantly furnished, the toilets clean, and the staff attentive. The restaurant and bar menus have similar food at the same prices, though they look quite different. The restaurant menu is delicately charming, while the glossy bar menu is a little louder without feeling out of place. We expect our planned visit next Friday to be well catered for.
