The Ferry Boat Inn

There was a wait for the food, but it was well worth it. Everything was fresh, hot and tasty. Our group has quite particular preferences about food and how it’s prepared, and Christie was accommodating, helpful and friendly throughout. One of the best meals and service we’ve ever had. We’ll definitely return.

The main room has some impressive oak, but the chandelier bulbs are far too bright and completely kill the ambience. We came in for a nice drink, then ended up rushing them and making a quick exit. Getting through the pram blockade was a struggle, with the couple at the next table having parked all around us. We’re all for an inclusive atmosphere, but the number of prams, pushchairs, babies and toddlers was overwhelming. If that’s a standard Saturday afternoon at the Ferryboat, anyone after a cosy, relaxing drink should steer well clear.

We went for a birthday Sunday roast with my wife and dog. The service was warm, polite and very cordial, and we were seated in a quiet corner away from the busy family tables. The low ceilings are throughout the venue. We had roast beef, roast pork, apple crumble and sticky toffee pudding. The food was standard pub fare, served with plenty of sauces. It was nice to go out for a treat, but despite the strong recommendation, we found the meal ordinary and not especially outstanding. Fambridge is a lively, family friendly and dog friendly spot, but it’s too far away for us to return.

We only stopped by on the spur of the moment for a quick drink with family, so I can’t comment on the food or rooms. We had our dogs with us, and it’s a beautiful, relaxing place that’s very dog friendly. The staff were lovely. I’d have liked a few more real ales to choose from, but that’s a small quibble. Everything else was perfect.
