Citrus Hotel Cheltenham by Compass Hospitality

We found the area well lit and felt safe walking around at night. The location was perfect for the performance we went to at the city hall, and it’s only a ten minute stroll to the city centre. The room was clean and well equipped, the beds were comfortable and the heating kept us warm all night in November. Staff were welcoming and professional. They didn’t bat an eyelid when my wife went out in her slippers to smoke. The smoking area is just off the entrance, well lit and safe for someone to stand in alone. I’d booked the wrong date, but when I phoned, they were understanding and managed to change it, luckily. I’d booked a suite, but they only had a twin room available. That was my mistake, so I don’t count it as a negative. We stayed on a Thursday and it was quiet around the hotel, so we slept soundly. There’s a lift and stairs from the car park, plus a disabled lift and a few steps from the street level entrance to the main entrance. The car park is under the hotel, with limited, tight spaces, so you may need to park somewhere else. All in all, a very good hotel. We’ll use it again if we need to come to Cheltenham.

We had a really good weekend here. The hotel is quiet even though it’s right in the middle of Cheltenham, and the room was lovely, with a fabulous mattress and a nice bathroom. The water temperature was a little off, but that was the only issue. Big towels and shower gel were provided, too. Matt at reception was great and really helpful. I’d happily come back. It’d be even better if parking and breakfast could be included in the price.

I wouldn’t stay here again. The room was noisy at night when the club nearby got going, despite being just behind the main shopping street and close to the centre. Inside, things were dirty and dusty, including the room we were moved to after I raised the problem with the first one. The staff member was friendly about changing rooms, but the furniture and equipment still hadn’t been cleaned properly. The blanket had mold, the shower head barely worked, and the broken bath switch hadn’t been repaired. The hair dryer was poor, which was a disaster after showering, and I couldn’t rest with wet hair. This was the worst hotel I’ve stayed in while travelling. It’s time for some renovation.

For the price, this is great value. The room was large and clean enough, and the bed was clean. It’s not posh, and the bathroom has a few odd touches, like a sliding toilet seat, but I can’t complain at this price. I’d definitely stay again.
