Hotel du Vin & Bistro Cheltenham

Cheltenham is known for its striking architecture, and this hotel's impressive exterior fits right in. It was my first time in town and my first stay with this hotel brand, and the building made a strong impression. Inside, the grand feel carries through to the beautifully designed rooms and opulent check-in area, with its large, stately desks. The rooms mix timeless classic style with high-end modern amenities, and I wasn't expecting a roll-top bath in the bedroom, but it was a lovely touch. The one letdown was breakfast: the full cooked option didn't quite live up to the quality of everything else. I'd gladly return to this elegant hotel.

The location made it easy to walk into town, and our room was lovely. We didn't eat at the hotel because we prefer going out when we're away, but we'd definitely stay here again. From my first call to ask a question before booking until we left after two nights, the front of house staff were exceptional. Adele and Melanie went out of their way to make our stay lovely, and nothing was too much trouble, even though we asked for a few things. Thanks again, Melanie and Adele, for making it wonderful.

The shower and toiletries were nice, and the room was quiet, so I slept well. The building doesn't seem very well cared for, though, and the reception staff weren't friendly. Breakfast was nothing special, and service was poor. I sat alone in the dining room for over five minutes before anyone appeared. Like everything in Cheltenham, it looks posh on the surface but feels pretty low rent underneath. It was fine.

The restaurant staff and waitress were nowhere to be seen when I needed them. I kept having to go and find someone to bring the starter, clear it, and bring the meals. The waitress acted like bringing us food was a favour. The event coordinator didn't come to see me at all during the event. Incredible. I won't be returning.
