Baytree Lodge

We had a great time with everyone staying in one place. The rooms are quite basic, with lots of beds packed in. There's no communal longue, and the dining table has benches, though the garden has plenty of chairs. Linen, toilet paper, soap, and shampoo were all plentiful.

Hoole has some lovely places to eat just down the road, and central Chester is about a 15-minute walk away. Baytree worked perfectly as our base for a family trip to the zoo. Tom and the staff were friendly, helpful and laid-back, and our cosy family room had everything we needed for two nights. Breakfast was freshly cooked with lots of choices. Many thanks, we'd happily recommend it.

The room needed a proper clean. There were hair clips and bits of rubbish on the carpet, dirt on the walls and ceiling, no plug in the ensuite sink, and the socket by the door didn't work. The mattresses were the cheapest I've ever "slept" on. Check-in was confusing too: nobody was there when we arrived, the phone number showed as unavailable for twenty minutes, and when I finally reached the owner, I was told how to enter but given the wrong room number. We moved my family to another room and swapped the keys in the lockbox, then an email arrived saying how to get in and that our room was the original one we'd entered. I won't be back.

We're only on our third day here and already really pleased with the place. Kathryn has been amazing, helping us feel comfortable and at home. It's a cosy, homely room in a Victorian house, and Tom, the friendly landlord, has been thoughtful about answering all our questions. Definitely recommend.
