We were in Chester for a shopping trip and stayed one night. Our place was clean, comfortable and lovely, and Gary kindly let us into the room early since it was ready. We didn't mind the half-hour walk into town, though buses run up and down all the time.

Gary greeted us when we arrived and was really helpful, advising us on the best way to walk into Chester. What a stunning city. The building and rooms are beautiful, and our room was spotless with a comfy bed. We had to cut the stay short by one night, unfortunately, but we'll definitely return when we're next in Chester. A great place in a perfect location, 5 stars all round.

We came to Chester for work in February, and after a booking mix-up ended up at Kilmorey lodge at 7pm. The gentleman gave me a warm welcome, but the room was really stuffy. The double bed filled it so completely there was no room to walk around, and the bathroom was tiny. I started using the bathroom at work before going back to the lodge. My wife surprised me by coming that night, which I hadn't known about. The next morning, while I was at work, the lady let herself into the room with her key and scared my wife. She said it was booked for one person rather than two. I can understand checking, but I'm not sure why someone would have to pay extra just to sleep in a bed. Maybe it was for the utilities, TV or wifi. My wife paid £60 extra for two nights, but that didn't stop the unannounced entries. She says the lady kept walking into the room every day, casually letting herself in and disturbing her while she worked, even if she was asking whether my wife needed anything. Knock first, so the guest can answer the door and isn't startled. We pay for the room, yet the lady acted as if she owned it and could do whatever she wanted. As a guy, I want to protect my loved ones, and hearing about my wife's experience makes my blood boil. For the lodge's sake, I think she needs a hotel management course to learn about hospitality. This lodge came up in conversation between my wife and me recently, which is why I'm writing this review in September about a stay back in February. I eventually spent three months in Chester at a place called George and dragon pub. It had a car park, a separate entrance from the pub, spacious rooms, and really good, kind service. Avoid Kilmorey lodge at all costs. Save your money and go elsewhere.

The shower pressure was a little low, but the room's positives outweighed that small drawback. It was beautifully presented, immaculately clean and had a comfortable bed, one of the nicest rooms we've had in this country. The town's edge is about a 20-minute walk away. Fantastic hotel, and it'll be our go-to when we return to Chester. Superb.

We stayed in room 1 for a Christmas trip to Chester last weekend. It was easy to find and had space to park. The room was lovely and nicely decorated, with a comfortable double and single bed, plenty of pillows, and lots of tea and coffee. The bathroom was clean too. The owner was friendly and helpful, recommending places to eat and visit. On our last morning, after travelling down country lanes to Chester, we found a flat tyre on the car. The owner checked that we were okay and said we could stay in the room as long as we needed. Thank you. We'd definitely recommend it and stay again. A bargain price, especially so close to Christmas.
