Brookfield Hotel

I might actually start looking forward to the long drive south from Leeds for work in Havant. I stayed two nights and enjoyed dinner on the second evening, as did our guests from The Netherlands. Breakfast was lovely, with plenty to choose from, and the eggs Benedict on the second morning was a highlight. I'd stayed here a few times when it was The Brookfields, and the change is striking. I was smiling as soon as I walked into my room, something chain hotels rarely inspire. Check-in was quick and pleasant, and for some unknown reason I'd been upgraded to a beautiful room. They'd left Classic FM playing. It's not my thing, but it suited the room, so I let it run. The bed and pillows were fantastic. I first settled on the sofa with a very nice coffee and the sweet treats they'd left beside a handwritten welcome note.

Even with the restaurant packed, the staff made sure nothing was too much trouble. My son was caught in traffic and running late, so they moved our booking back by half an hour to give us time to wait for him. We had a delightful Sunday lunch at the Ropemakers, and the food was superb. The Pistachio Soufflé was especially good. We'll definitely be back.

There are lots of choices on the menu, including very good vegetarian options, and the drinks list is creative. We had a delicious Sunday roast, with impeccable, friendly service. The place is decorated really nicely and is going to become a regular stop for us. Looking forward to trying the bar menu next time.

The charming town and waterfront are around a 20-minute walk away. Back at the hotel, the restaurant serves delicious, high-quality food. The rooms are comfortable and furnished to an excellent standard. It also stays quiet at night, and the blackout curtains are good. A very good hotel.
