The homemade food was the highlight for us: everything we tried was fresh, tasty and beautifully presented, and the pie was full of flavour. The prices felt fair for the quality and cosy setting. We went for dinner as a couple and found a warm welcome from the attentive staff at The Coach and Horses, in the heart of the South Downs National Park. The independently run inn has been refurbished with period-style decor that makes it feel comfortable and full of character. It’s dog-friendly too, which is great for a future visit with our companion. The toilets were spotless, and the linen single-use hand towels were a nice touch. I’d book ahead, as it seems to be getting popular. We left with a lovely impression and are looking forward to eating there again.

We’ll be back, and wish the owners all the best with their plans for a gentlemen’s and ladies’ club, which they told us about along with the waitress. It sounds like a good way to bring in more customers, and they deserve that. The pub felt completely relaxed, with locals, visitors and friendly dogs by the log fires, and nobody seemed in a hurry to leave. Our meal was freshly cooked and came straight from the kitchen. The historic building has been refurbished and restyled to a high standard while still suiting its age, and we got a very warm welcome.

The room was clean, well equipped and had a very comfortable bed. We really appreciated the homemade treats, too. Paul and Dave were fantastic hosts, nothing was too much trouble, and we loved staying at The Coach and Horses. Dinner was excellent, served hot in good-sized portions. The homemade pie was packed with flavour, and the rum and raisin parfait had plenty of rum. Compliments to the chef, and thanks for a great stay.

We were a walking group of 18 and the kitchen got everyone's food out promptly and together. The staff were welcoming and really efficient with the orders and separate payments. My steak and ale pie was amazing, packed with steak, and the portions were generous. The BLT was great too. Lovely village setting, with beautiful countryside walks all around. Highly recommended.

The service was professional and very pleasant, attentive without hovering. We’ve already booked our table for next time. The menu is short, but the options on it are lovely; our food was fresh, cooked perfectly and beautifully presented, and the desserts were just as tempting. What a beautiful place, and we got a pleasant greeting when we walked in. Everything exceeded our expectations. 5 stars.
