For about £40, I got breakfast included, off-street parking, and even a small fridge in the room. The staff member was brilliant, really friendly and helpful, and I wouldn’t hesitate to stay again. This was pretty much the cheapest place I could find in the south of England. It’s not the nicest place ever, but definitely not the worst. If you’re after somewhere to sleep, shower in the morning, and spend the day out, it ticks the boxes. It’s small, but I found it cosy. The bathroom isn’t up to the Ritz’s standard and the beds are a bit soft, but you’re warm, dry, and reasonably comfortable. I’m baffled by all the negative reviews for one of the cheapest places to stay. Expecting luxury at this price is unreasonable. People leaving bad reviews should pay £300 a night at the Hilton and stop moaning.

The receptionist was welcoming and very helpful, including helping me with my car when I nearly got stuck at the very narrow car park entrance. That junction was the only reason I didn’t give five stars. The rooms were comfortable and it’s great value. Other guests were talking loudly into the early hours, which was inconsiderate, though that isn’t the hotel’s fault. The hotel staff themselves were friendly and welcoming.

The man who worked there was lovely and helped us find the place, but the accommodation was absolutely grim and filthy. The toilet was brown, the shower air vent was dirty, and the shower turned into a bath within two minutes. Anything left on the bedside tables slid off because they weren’t level. A huge crack in the window meant we couldn’t close it, and there were stains on the bed sheets. Sleeping on a toaster would’ve been more comfortable. It was a disaster, and I wouldn’t recommend staying unless you want to catch aids from the room.

The person at the front desk showed us to our room and thoughtfully carried my bag upstairs. The room was a good size and warm, with a handy mini fridge, and the bed was very comfortable. A friend and I needed somewhere last minute while in town for a tournament, and The Pines was available and affordable. Lovely little place. I’d definitely stay again if I’m back in the area.

We couldn’t even stay overnight in this grotty place. The drive down to the car park was so narrow our car wouldn’t fit, and all the few spaces out front were taken. We drove around looking for street parking, but the bays were full and most roads had double yellow lines, so we went home. After seeing the room, we weren’t looking forward to sleeping there anyway. It’s cheap, very run-down, and dirty, with a stained toilet. I’d give it a minus rating if I could. I think even covid wouldn’t visit this place. Please go elsewhere, the Bates Motel seems like a better bet.
