The old building has loads of character, with more than 500 years of history and a royal connection. We had such a good time at The Crown at Shipton that we came back on Saturday after visiting Friday evening. Both meals were full of flavour and cooked beautifully. Lisa chose the beef bourguignon, and I had fish and chips. The welcome from Andy, Anne Marie and their son Ollie was wonderful, and the place felt warm and friendly, with log fires going and plenty of drinks behind the bar. Bertie, the lovely black lab, was there to greet us too. Great hospitality and atmosphere. We'll be back. All the best, Andy and Lisa.

The staff were so kind and easy to talk to that we felt at home straight away, and they paid attention to every detail. The Crown at Shipton is beautifully decorated and has a warm, welcoming feel. It's also ideally placed for exploring the Cotswolds. We had a fantastic stay and would highly recommend it.

We'd booked the private dining room six months ahead for an important celebration, with everything confirmed and a hefty deposit paid. Then, a week before the event, we were told they couldn't honor the booking after all. We'd already been chasing them, but our calls and emails had gone unanswered. Now we're scrambling to find another place for the party. Extremely disappointing, and this has never happened to us before. Be cautious about booking far in advance.

The food was cooked really well at both dinner and breakfast, and our room was nice, if on the small side. The hotel is very old, but the room was comfortable. Finding the car park can be tricky because it's on a slight bend off the main road. If the hotel is on your left as you pass, the car park is the first entrance you come to, so slow right down.

We drove over from Leicester to visit the area and spotted the Crown on the way. It looked really good, so we stopped in. The service was amazing and the pork Sunday dinner was great. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone visiting.
