It was sad to find the hotel closed now. I hope everyone there, including the dogs, is doing well. I arrived in Clacton 9 years ago and stayed at the Melrose Hotel for 10 days. The owners were very nice and helpful, especially as my English wasn't the best then. Thanks for all the help and those delicious breakfasts. I went back with friends for breakfast several times because I could get a good English breakfast there. I've lived nearby ever since, and walking past always touches me because it brings back lovely memories. Thank you!

I've stayed here a few times and would recommend it for a fairly priced, no-frills break in a superb location. It's dog friendly too 🙂. The staff are friendly, breakfast is hearty, and the B&B is lovely and clean. The decor is basic and could do with a revamp, but the beds are comfortable and the shared bathrooms are kept to a good clean standard.

I spent a week here and found it clean, with good food and a nice warm room. The staff were friendly and helpful, and it's an easy walk to town and the pier, with the sea just across the road. The part that upset my stay was being asked to pay again when I'd paid online at the time of booking. I was told my card had been declined, even though the payment had gone out of my bank two weeks earlier. It got sorted, but they should check more carefully before making comments like that.

The women working there were so friendly and made me feel at home. Customer service was top notch, and breakfast was TO DIE FOR, especially the fried bread. I'd definitely book here again instead of The Ocean Hotel. I'd give it 5 stars if the shower and toilet weren't downstairs from my room, with just one shower/bath and toilet on the first floor.

I had a fairly sized single room with a cooked breakfast included, and it more than met my needs despite being the cheapest hotel on Booking. Staff were welcoming without being intrusive, and the place is comfortable and close to the seafront in Clacton. Dogs weren't a problem, despite what another review mentioned.
