The location was good, about a 5-6 minute walk from the famous pier, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Our ground-floor room was large, bright, and airy, though the colour scheme wasn't to our taste. The ensuite was the surprise: shower and WC in separate side-by-side cubicles, both extended with odd pieces of wood, while the wash basin was across the room. Breakfast was brought to the room at the time we requested, after we pre-ordered it. There wasn't a cooked option, just yoghurt, cereals, and toast, which let the stay down.

We were there for a wedding nearby. The check-in felt a bit strange to us, but after that everything was perfect. The staff were really great and took good care of our requests, and breakfast served in the room was nice too.

The building is a wonderful bit of old Clevedon, and I really wanted to like the place. David was friendly and welcoming, and the host managed to fit my car into the single parking space. My room was spacious, the bed comfortable, and the shower had plenty of hot water with an easy-to-adjust temperature. Alex Polizzi should be grabbed if she's available! But the rotting car out front makes the property uninviting, and Room 1 wasn't ready. The room itself looked tired, with extension leads and wires everywhere, and the built-in shower module had badly finished silicone and grouting. There was no extractor fan, so all the condensation went into the bedroom. The styles felt like a haphazard mismatch, and I couldn't get the heating sorted beyond using a plug-in oil heater. I ticked breakfast on the arrival sheet, but didn't realise it was served in the bedroom, as that wasn't clear. There was no reception staff to ask, so I gave up and left without it. David has since promised an £8 refund, to be arranged. I can't say I'd return, which is a shame.

Our room was spotless and lovely, and I'd stay again. It had a spacious ensuite, kettle with tea and coffee, and an exposed wall that looked great. A friendly lady welcomed us and showed us in. We ordered a Chinese takeaway the first night, and David kindly brought us plates and cutlery. He was chatty and friendly too. The bed was a little hard, but the pillows and quilt were comfortable. Continental breakfast came to our room at the time we chose, with lots of options picked the night before. The croissants were lovely and warm, and the coffee was made in a French press. Noise travelled well, though it didn't really disturb us. We were on the ground floor, and the corridors smelled a bit musty, but it's an old house. There's plenty of parking. I understand refurbishment is underway, which is great. Thanks for having us! We'd been unsure because of the reviews, but were glad we came.
