The Beardmore

The main areas of the hotel are modern and attractive, though my room really needed a refurb. It was clean and comfortable, but I’d have been unhappy if I’d paid for it myself. I was staying because of a visit to the adjoining hospital, and NHS Grampian covered the room due to the long wait for my procedure, so this is a difficult review to write. If you or a family member need to go to the hospital, this hotel is ideal. I’ve attached a few photos of the room.

We stayed because my mother was a patient at the hospital. Our room was spacious and had what we needed for one night, and we slept well. The decor was basic, with some shabby, tired furnishings. Breakfast was good for the price, but the Bar and Grill was disappointing. The food was bland, and I wasn’t sure whether it had been cooked fresh or bought in. Residents do get a 20% discount. The staff let the stay down. At check-in nobody explained that breakfast had to be booked, even for hotel guests, which led to an embarrassing moment the next morning. Only one staff member seemed cheerful and like he was enjoying his work. We wouldn’t stay as paying guests.

I was here for work and had a lovely room. Check-in was straightforward, and the restaurant food was tasty and reasonably priced. One of the dishes had an issue, but the waiter was very helpful sorting it out. I’d happily stay here again if I needed to.

The restaurant had a good choice of gluten-free options for dinner, and the staff were great at explaining what we could have. The menu online doesn’t really mention the G/F choices, so it’s worth asking. We stayed for a hospital trip and had a clean room with a bonnie view over the river.
