We were hiking nearby and stayed for one night. The room was comfortable and the hotel spotless, and the landlady was friendly and welcoming the whole time. Our room faced the road, so there was some traffic noise, but it didn’t bother us too much. We had the beef and lamb from the Easter Sunday menu, and both the food and generous portions were fabulous. Breakfast was very good too. A really pleasant stay.

We’ve been back twice since our first visit, and I reckon this is the best pub food I’ve had in ages. The portions aren’t stingy either. On our first visit we’d messed up the restaurant booking, but they still welcomed us and found us a spot in the bar. Lovely staff and great food. We’ll definitely be back again.

The beef brisket and vegetables were very good, though there wasn’t any gravy on our plates. I’m sure we could have got some if we’d asked. We also had dessert: the cheesecake was lovely, while the apple crumble was a bit smaller than expected. One of us has a nut allergy, and the waiter was very careful when talking through the options. We were three and had booked a table for Sunday roast. The pub is cozy inside, with excellent staff, and offers a £30 two-course meal with a few choices for starters, mains and dessert. It’s about a 20-minute drive from Whitehaven, with beautiful views along the way. We had a very nice time and would come again. Worth considering if you’re in the area.

This was our fourth time coming back for a meal, and the food was beautiful as always. I had the beef brisket this time. It was cooked beautifully and came in a huge portion. We felt very welcome and will certainly return.

The Sunday food has been consistently great, honest cooking on all three of my visits. Everyone was satisfied, the staff were friendly, and there’s a good selection of beers. It’s a little off the beaten track, but well worth the trip. I haven’t stayed here, so can’t comment on the rooms.
