Delta Hotels by Marriott Colchester

We spent New Year's here with the family. The staff were really nice and friendly, and breakfast was good. The pool heating wasn't working, but the water wasn't very cold. It felt about how I normally expect it to, so that was fine. There's a sauna and steam room too. The gym is small, but fully equipped and better than most hotel gyms I've been to. The downside is that classes run there, which restricts where you can work out. I'm not sure whether they have a timetable posted. If they do, it'd be great if staff let people know where to find class times when they register. All in all, it wasn't a bad hotel. You get what you pay for.

I just got back from a two-night weekend away with my partner. What great value, about £60 a night, with all the extras included. The hotel is beautifully decorated, and our room was clean and tidy, with tasteful decor and everything I'd want for a short stay. It came with a fridge, iron, hairdryer, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, and chocolate bars. Breakfast was 10 out of 10. The swimming pool was clean, and there was a steam room and sauna too. The staff were polite and helpful. I'd 100 percent stay here again.

The restaurant dinner was a highlight. We chose the Indian dishes instead of the standard menu, and everything was really tasty. The family room was spacious, the rooms were great, and most of the hotel looked pretty and clean, though a few areas could use some work. Staff were friendly, and I enjoyed the breakfast buffet too. We booked a night after visiting Colchester zoo because the hotel had a pool and looked appealing. The pool was smaller and cooler than I expected, and its temperature display wasn't working, so I don't know how cold it actually was. The changing room was warm. I liked that the pool stayed open until 9pm, even though it was next door. That wasn't a major problem. I'd stay again for a short visit.

Holly looked after us so well, she was friendly and polite throughout. The Indian meal was the highlight of our night: beautifully served, well cooked and full of flavour. We had Butter Chicken, Lamb Josh and some delicious starters, and it was among the best Indian food we've had in a long time. The room was very clean, and the toilet was immaculate. We stayed for one night, and both my husband and I had a great time. Well done to the kitchen team!
