The Alma Inn

Our room was spacious and very comfortable, and we all slept well. We’ve stayed here a few times over the last several years, even though we don’t visit often, and we really enjoy the Alma Inn’s location and ambience. It was quiet during this stay because of the weather forecast, though some locals did come in for food. The room access area could use a refresh, as the carpet is worn in places. It’s great value, and we hope to visit again.

The food was lovely and reasonably priced, and the countryside setting is beautiful and remote. But we waited quite a while for our food despite there being few tables. The staff and service were below average. They made us feel unwelcome, and the brunette waiter/manager came across as patronising, arrogant, and unpleasant, without seeming interested in looking after customers. Would I go back? Probably not.

The Inn is in a great location, and we’d love to return in summer to sit outside with a drink and enjoy the view. We found this little gem while looking for somewhere to stay after a planned walk nearby. Our visit was amazing: friendly, accommodating staff, a fantastic room, tasty, well-prepared food, and efficient service. There was a wide choice of beer and wine, too.

Room 9 was gorgeous, and the fillet steak I had for dinner on Monday was the best I’ve eaten. I stayed at The Alma for two nights while visiting family nearby. Mark gave me a warm welcome, checked me in, and showed me to my room. The pub has a cosy, warm feel and everyone was welcoming. The team’s food and service were excellent. I’ll definitely come back next time I’m in the area.
