Breakfast in the sunroom was a real highlight of our road trip. For £12 each we had smoked bacon, local sausages, a perfectly fried egg, black pudding, grilled tomato, quality beans, delicious mushrooms, toast with real dairy butter, plus unlimited tea, pressed juice, cereals, fresh fruit and yogurt. Jenna and her partner were warm, friendly hosts who couldn’t do enough for us. We stayed overnight in our campervan at The Burnside in Edmundbyers. The owners have recently started offering stopovers, and have a campervan themselves. It costs £10, with another £5 for the electric hook-up we used. The grounds are beautiful and peaceful, with a little stream and a pond on the hillside, just outside the village. There are two friendly pubs a five-minute walk away. The scenery around there is phenomenal, with rolling hills and views down the valley. On the scenic drive to nearby Derwent Reservoir, we stopped several times just to take it all in. It’s not a campsite, but there’s fresh water, a warm toilet, hot water and an easy-to-access electric hook-up, better than some campsite facilities. Couldn’t recommend it more, 11/10.

The place was really clean and cosy, and we loved our stay. Jenna was an amazing host who went out of her way to make things work for us. The kids loved her, especially when she painted Easter eggs with them and arranged a fun day out. And if you like a full English, hers is legendary. We’ll definitely be back.

We stayed in the Robin, which was a good size for two, with or without a dog. It had everything we expected from self-catering and more, and towels, linen and blankets were provided. Jenna was so helpful and happy to chat, while still giving us space. She made us a fresh cooked breakfast after we told her the night before what time we wanted it. It was perfect. The Burnside is a lovely find if you want real peace and quiet, with wildlife as the only sound and plenty of walks and nature nearby. There are two pubs within walking distance. The closest is fully dog friendly and does an amazing Sunday lunch. I’d certainly recommend it for a quiet break out of town.

The owner was so friendly and helpful, checking in with us during our brilliant stay last week. We had two chalets next to each other, which worked really well for our group. The mattresses were very comfortable, and there were welcome scones when we arrived. Breakfast was delicious, excellent quality and had lots of variety. Would definitely recommend.

There were seven of us for one night, and we had a great time. The rooms were spacious, the living room had comfortable sofas, and the open-plan kitchen was handy. The beds were very comfortable too, and Jenna was a great host. Breakfast in the morning was awesome. Thanks as well for the last-minute refund for the three people who cancelled. We really appreciated it and will definitely come again. Ahmed
