The Blacksmiths Arms

We’d driven past for years before finally stopping, and I can’t believe we waited so long. The food was amazing and the service was great. Such a hidden gem, well worth a stop.

Our company group spent a long lunch in this charming pub, run by the Jamaican chef. The desserts were a hit, especially the baked cheesecake. The food was excellent too: I had a huge beer battered cod and chips, while everyone else polished off their jerk chicken, curry goat and sweet potato. Highly recommend.

I’m away from home a lot for work, and last week I found this place as a quiet spot away from the city bustle. Jazz made late check-in easy by arranging access to a key, and the room was just what I hoped for: warm and country-style, very clean, with an incredibly comfortable bed. The shower was hot in the morning, and breakfast was cooked to order. I liked it enough to book again this week, and tried dinner this time. The king prawn coconut dish on the specials board was amazing, cooked to order with care and Jamaican authenticity. It’s a welcoming village pub, and even the locals are charming. This is a rare find, exceptionally friendly and warm, and I’d recommend it to anyone nearby or passing through. I wish I lived closer! Thanks Jazz 👌 Pubs need our support, especially Freehold.

A nice local pub with a specialised Caribbean Kitchen and tasty curry dishes. The menu is very limited, though, and could use a couple of vegetarian options. Caribbean desserts are missing too, and adding some would be a nice touch.
