The dining room had a nice atmosphere and decor, but at these prices I expected much better service and food. We waited ages for someone to take our order, then waited a long time for the meal. The staff seemed impatient and didn’t smile, which gave the impression they didn’t really care about customers. My fish didn’t taste very fresh and was a bit overcooked, and the chips weren’t crisp. The venison my companion ordered was a small portion and didn’t match the menu description. Neither meal arrived very hot. I’d come because of the good reviews, but my experience wasn’t good.

We went for dinner last night and, with the place almost fully booked, were seated in the ‘green room’. The beef shin and ale pie was delicious: perfectly cooked pastry, creamy mash, tasty greens and proper gravy. I didn’t need any condiments. I’d order it again and come back. The 25% off food on Wednesday is a bargain, especially for that meal.

Charlotte was really friendly and attentive, and made sure we had a brilliant evening. We came to celebrate a family member’s birthday and had a lovely time, with a welcoming atmosphere and perfect food and drinks. I’d highly recommend it.

For the high price, the food was disappointing. It was overcooked, only warm when it reached the table, and the portions felt small for someone with a slightly above-average appetite. The staff seemed uninterested. When I raised the issue, they only said they’d tell the kitchen, and nobody checked on us during the meal. Not worth the effort of going.
