Room in Guest Room - Spacious Double Room in Coventry

I had booked three nights, November 13, 14, and 15, 2025. On arrival, the house was dark and nobody was home. Another guest had already waited outside for 20 minutes trying to reach the host or Booking.com without success. I tried for another 20 minutes and also got nowhere. The front door was unlocked, so I tried it. Inside, every light was off and a terrible smell hit as soon as we entered. We switched the lights on and found a filthy, disgusting property. Every room was locked except two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The bedrooms had no furniture, just a mattress. One had dirty, stained sheets, and the other had none. Both bathrooms had “do not use” signs on the doors, and dirty, wet cloths were lying on the floor. The foul smell was throughout the house, and the carpet was trashed. There was nowhere I could sit comfortably, let alone sleep. The kitchen was just as disgusting. There was uncovered food in cupboards, every dish was dirty, and the fridge looked like a crime scene. The place seemed abandoned, perhaps with someone homeless living there part-time. I left to find somewhere else to stay and cancelled. The host refused a full refund and stopped responding. This is a scam. I contacted Booking.com and believe they have since removed it from their site. I’ll also report it to Action Fraud and Trading Standards.
