The staff were rude, unprofessional, and unhelpful all evening, and they ruined the night. When we arrived at 1pm to set up for the function, nobody acknowledged us, so we had to guess which room was ours. Later, my 13 year old daughter waited 10 minutes for a can of pop while staff walked past her. Apparently the four people in the other room were keeping them busy. We finished a surprise 30th around midnight. Just 5-10 minutes after the shutters came down for last orders, staff told us to leave, with no time to enjoy our last drink peacefully. Then they said the room had to be completely cleaned that night to get the deposit back, and that returning first thing in the morning wasn't an option. Nobody had mentioned this during the booking, despite their claim that we would have been told. After we tidied up, they also said we couldn't put the black bags in their bins and had to take them with us. We couldn't vacuum the floors, as none of us travels with a Henry hoover, so we'll find out today whether that affects the deposit. They don't seem interested in serving a room of people spending thousands at their bar. If you're unlucky enough to book the function room, I'd take the hit on the deposit and leave the room as it is while they're rushing you out. At least then they'll have to do some work cleaning it in the morning.

The rooms were in good condition and the price felt fair for the four nights I stayed. Breakfast was the one disappointment. Although the stated hours are 8:00 to 12:00, the door to the reception and café area only opened at about 8:05-8:15. Staff then seemed unhappy and told me I'd need to wait another 30 minutes for breakfast. If you have early meetings, studies, or anything else that depends on being on time, I'd skip breakfast here and plan somewhere else so you don't lose time.

The bed was good quality and very comfortable, which was the saving grace at the Wyken Inn. The rooms are small but well appointed, and ours was quiet enough that we couldn't hear the live music downstairs on Saturday night. There was, though, a lot of road noise. It's what looks like an old workers club, done up for a new market. The windows only open a little, so the rooms get very hot. A fan would help. I wouldn't recommend the restaurant downstairs. My burger was just OK and the chips were tasteless. I asked for salt, was told it would be brought over, but it never came, so the chips went cold and I didn't eat them. They made up a large part of the meal, which was disappointing. The English Breakfast was also very average, with poor quality beans and watery tinned tomatoes, pretty much flavourless.

Emma and Sian, the managers, along with the bar staff and cleaners, couldn't have been kinder during the three months my husband John and I stayed here on and off while our daughter was in Coventry hospital. She has sadly passed away. Nothing was too much trouble, and the food and drink were great. The rooms were good, though the heating needs attention. There was only a small wall heater, not enough for a room that size. It's such a shame that head office owners/managers came in and upset Emma, the present manager, and Sian, pushing them to resign. In the 16 weeks they'd been there, they'd really turned the place around. You've made a big mistake letting Emma, Sian, Connor, Marsha, and the rest of the team go. Thanks for looking after John and me. It'll be your loss, and good luck wherever you all go, you'll shine. Biggest thank you. We won't be returning, though, as they won't be there.

The staff were lovely, and check-in was clear and quick. Parking was tricky because it was busy, but we did find a space and filled in the Parking eye screen when we arrived. Our basic room was spotlessly clean, with lovely large bath towels, a TV with the remote given at check-in, and complimentary toiletries. There were complimentary tea, coffee, and juice in the bar, though we didn't use them. We didn't eat or go to the bar, so can't comment on the food or drinks. It was good value for an overnight stay while my partner was on a course nearby all weekend. The downsides aren't really a reflection on how the place is run. It's on a busy main road, and our room faced it, so traffic noise meant we couldn't open the window. Other guests banged doors throughout the night. My partner woke with a start in the early hours at a loud bang next door, followed by a loud argument. Somehow I slept through it. That may be unusual, but the location and noise put us off returning.
