It rained all day during our cycle trip to raise money by visiting all the Lifeboat Stations in GB, but the warm rooms meant everything dried out. We got a lovely welcome, and breakfast at the cafe below was excellent. Everyone was friendly and helpful. One of the cyclists had left cash in the room, and the owner transferred it to my bank account. He also donated to the RNLI.

The cafe itself is great, the service is great, and I love the model train. I can’t fault anything there. The room situation was another matter. We booked a quad room because it had an en suite, but they moved us to a cheaper twin with a shared bathroom because there were only two of us. That was off-putting, even if it wasn’t the end of the world. The attached photos show how shocking the place was. It felt fraudulently rough. I once accidentally booked a by-the-hour brothel in Vietnam on holiday that was nicer than this B&B. There’s no justification for this in the UK. Sorry, but if this is what the isle has to offer, then the isle has to suffer and it needs to end.

For what I paid, the quality was reasonably fair. I travel a lot, and I’d put this hotel at around two stars. The rooms have lots of bodges and are in quite bad condition, but the overnight price balances that out fairly evenly. I was also a bit surprised to find one shared bathroom for seven people. If you’re looking for somewhere quite cheap, it’s a reasonable place for the money.

The night was really uncomfortable and noisy, and the beds were awful. There didn’t seem to be any care taken to make the stay comfortable. The bathroom had absolutely nothing in it, and the biscuits in the tea and coffee basket were smashed up. The place was very shabby, and we’re not fussy people. The mattresses were dirty, there wasn’t even a bedside lamp, and I’d say it was about £100 overpriced.

The two sisters were so kind, and the service was five stars. Best roasted potatoes I’ve ever had. This is only about the restaurant, I didn’t sleep here.
