Galvelmore House

We spent Christmas at Gavelmore House with our family of 15, and sadly the property was disappointing in many ways. The house was freezing when we arrived. The furniture was shabby, the kitchen shockingly ill-equipped, the TVs had no remotes, there was visible mould in the bathrooms, and some lamps had no bulbs. There seemed to be very little thought given to detail or what guests might need. It felt as if the owners had done the bare minimum to make money from an old house. In the master bedroom, for example, nails stuck dangerously out of a chest of drawers and its beading was hanging loose. That kind of hazard is inexcusable. I really wish I could leave a positive review, but Gavelmore House was a letdown.

The rooms are lovely, but our first night was a bit chilly. I wish the heating had been switched on before we arrived.

We took the whole house for six families, with adults and children. It was spacious, very nice, and clean, and the central location worked really well. We'll come back.

Seventeen of us stayed here for the Scottish 6 Days Orienteering competition, and there was plenty of room. The house was beautifully clean and very comfortable, and the caretaker was a great help. We were lucky with the weather: while home was getting soaked in rain, we had sunshine all day and ate outside in the garden most evenings. Crieff is a lovely little town, and Galvemore House is only a stone's throw from a great range of shops and amenities. We also went on the Glenturret Famous Grouse whisky tour, which was really interesting. Highly recommended.
