We turned up on a whim after getting engaged just before the visit, without even checking the reviews. So glad we did. The mixed grill had the tastiest lamb I’ve ever had, the T-bone was cooked perfectly, and the portions were generous enough for my big belleh. There was also a runny homemade scotch egg made with local ingredients. This pub serves the kind of proper, local British food the West Country does so well, at a great price. It’s lovely to see a real pub thriving, with good affordable food and the atmosphere we want from a place like this. Huge thanks to the landlord, chef and staff. We’ll DEFINITELY be back. Thumbs up from me :)

It gets pretty noisy in there. Fine if you like a rowdy place, but I wouldn’t pick it for a romantic dinner.

We stopped here for a night on the way to St Ives two years ago. The locals told us about flaming fish and chips by candlelight, and the beer was good too. I could have had a few pints, but had to hold back. The room was cheap and okay, making this a good stopover.
