We stopped in after a walk in the Lomond hills and found the place warm and welcoming. The staff were friendly and helpful. The fruit scones were delicious with butter and jam, and a lovely touch was serving them warmed. The coffee was very good and piping hot. We’ll definitely come back.

Everything is made fresh, and the cakes and scones are fantastic. I especially liked being able to have cream with a scone, and the tea and coffee were lovely and fresh too. It’s brilliantly located, just two minutes from Falkland’s main public car park, though you do have to climb a staircase to reach the coffee shop.

We’ve visited The Hayloft twice. The menu is straightforward, with soups, paninis, sandwiches and cakes, and the food is decent, filling and very affordable. We tried the soup-and-sandwich deal and found it hearty and good value. A nice choice for an uncomplicated, reasonably priced meal.

When the pubs and cafés on Falkland High Street were packed, I remembered The Hayloft just around the corner and up the street. There was only one other diner upstairs, despite there being seating for about twenty. The room is bright and spacious, with blackbirds singing outside, and feels very peaceful. We had soup, cakes, juice and a latte. Everything came soon after ordering and tasted delicious, all at a bargain price. The servers were polite, prompt and neatly presented, and there are customer toilets. Getting upstairs means using a flight of stairs, so it may be difficult for anyone with limited mobility or using a wheelchair. There’s a small table and two chairs at the bottom. For a light snack and a taste of Scottish hospitality, it’s a lovely hidden gem, especially when the High Street is busy.

I’m a picky eater, but everything I tried was delicious and came with lovely garnishes. I sampled my family’s soup, sandwiches and quiche, and enjoyed all of it. The host and her mother were also lovely to chat with and had helpful recommendations for the area. Highly recommend!
