The Cott Inn

Really warm, welcoming pub, and the portions are generous. The menu isn't huge, but there's a good choice across the board. I only got a picture of the vegan dark chocolate ganache, which was so rich and chocolatey. Plenty of wine options too, and dogs are very welcome. I'd happily recommend it.

The food and service are what stand out here. The service felt both professional and personal, and the dishes beyond the usual pub staples were exceptional. I'd skip the fish and chips, though, as that standard pub option let down the meal for me. It's a traditional pub with several awards for its food, ales and service. The main building is modern, with fireplaces and a fairly small area of tables and seats. There's also a heated outdoor section under a gazebo-style cover next to it. Unless you've booked, you should expect to sit outside.

The Christmas meal at The Cott Inn was my first time eating there, and it was a lovely one. My Wild Mushroom, Brie and Cranberry Wellington was delicious, with squash purée, Madeira sauce and buttered greens alongside it. I finished with dark chocolate ganache and blood orange sorbet. It was a wonderful end to what felt like a perfect Christmas dinner.

Our group of 10 had a fantastic meal, and the food was amazing. Alma looked after our table so well. She was cheerful and engaging, as well as friendly and efficient. It was a pleasure having her serve us. Well done, Cott Inn xxx.
