Bayards Cove Inn

We both chose specials for lunch, and everything came out quickly, fresh and hot. I had the shrimp burger, which was juicy with big pieces in it, plus hot fries, coleslaw and tasty harissa mayo. My husband got the chicken and chorizo caesar salad, nicely dressed with plenty of chicken and a decent amount of sauce. The staff were friendly, and we’ll definitely be back.

The Beatty was a cosy, warm room, spotlessly clean, with a very comfortable bed and a delicious breakfast. Its traditional leaded windows look out onto the street and the sea. Chloe gave us such a warm welcome. The inn is a very old listed building, thoughtfully designed to feel comfortable while keeping its quirks. There’s no dedicated parking area, but we got a space right next door and left the car there for our whole stay. It’s just a stone’s throw from the estuary. We’ll definitely return, thank you!

My family liked their meals, though they also seemed overpriced. My own dinner was a frustrating experience. The menu showed only one vegan option, marked vegan rather than vegetarian, but it arrived with Parmesan, and the garlic bread had butter on it. When I checked about the cheese, the waitress confirmed it was Parmesan and asked whether I’d said I was vegan. I hadn’t, since the menu had labelled the dish vegan. They brought out the actual vegan version, but even the sauce looked different. The ravioli was okay, though quite expensive. Dartmouth definitely has better vegan choices. Service overall wasn’t great.

We found plenty of parking nearby. The menu was beautiful, the food was high quality, and the design and service were exceptional. We had a great dinner with friends, then breakfast with family the next day. Highly recommend.
