Dartmouth parking is best described as “challenging”, so we left the car tucked away at the property by our host for the whole stay. We could walk off the calories from meals at 'Compass Rose', 'Rockfish', Seahorse and The Embankment Bistro by climbing the hill we called “The Yellow Brick Road”, actually 'The Mount Flagon Steps'. Our room was well equipped, the bed was very comfortable, and the balcony looked out over the quaint, fascinating town. The location was fabulous, and the breakfasts were excellent, with lovely food and those same balcony views. Our hosts were friendly and warm, with great attention to detail. Thanks for making our stay comfortable, relaxing and memorable. We hope to return someday.

The views of Dartmouth town centre and the river Dart were breathtaking, and the accommodation was just as impressive. We spent 3 nights in Compass Rose and it was absolutely stunning. Anne and Bernard were fantastic hosts. Parking is extremely tight and takes some effort, though that wouldn't put us off coming back. Bernard can park your car for you if you'd like. Fantastic hosts!

For our first visit to Dartmouth, we couldn't have chosen better. Fantastic hosts and an ideal location.

The breakfast had a fabulous selection, cooked and presented to restaurant standards. The hosts were exceptional, friendly, helpful and simply nice to spend time with. The rooms are decorated in a style I like, with artwork and details that create a real look, and the view from high above Dartmouth across the river to Kingsweir is spectacular. I've travelled a lot and stayed in some spectacular places around the world, and this is as good as the best in many ways. One drawback is the location: the view comes with 100 steps down to town and back up again. The number 90 bus stops at the end of the road, leaving just a gentle slope down. It's not the cheapest place, but it's very much worth it. I'd recommend it unless the steps would be a problem.

The views across Dartmouth and the river are spectacular, and the location works well for exploring the town and nearby countryside. Ann and her husband are welcoming hosts, and there's a good choice at breakfast. The Compass Rose sits on a Dartmouth valley hillside, so the local roads can be tricky to negotiate. If you're using satnav, follow the directions from your host instead.
