The food was very good, tasty, hot, and nicely presented, and the staff knew their stuff and answered all our questions. The drinks selection was fairly standard, though I’d never come across draught Majorcan beer before. It was excellent. It’s been a few years since I last ate at The Narrow Boat, and I was pleasantly surprised by the brighter, warmer, airier atmosphere. It’s a significant improvement. A super effort and a big improvement since my last visit. If you haven’t been in a while, give it a try. You might be pleasantly surprised. Happy to recommend it.

The staff were pleasant enough and offered us free coffee to try to make up for the meal, but it was probably the worst Sunday lunch I’ve ever had. I won’t be going back. I booked for 12 people, and nobody was happy with their food. My roast beef was so tough I couldn’t finish it. I suspect it had been reheated, as it certainly didn’t seem freshly cooked. The roast potatoes were undercooked and not crisp at all. The people who ordered fish and chips were disappointed by the small fish portions, which didn’t feel like good value for the price.

Lunch took about two and a half hours for two courses, which was very slow. The steak pie was chewy, and the jam roly-poly was just a one-inch slice off a roll. The hot chocolate fudge cake, though, was a very generous portion.

We walked in with a booking, but the staff who greeted us didn’t seem happy. They were polite, but their manner didn’t feel warm. The place was quiet, and the few other tables seemed to be struggling to pick something. We had the same problem, as several menu items weren’t available and there wasn’t much left to choose from. After a few drinks we headed to another pub. The starters we did manage to have were really nice 🙂 I’ll add more to this pub review later.

We went for our son’s birthday meal, booked for 3 pm, and it was so disappointing. The food was cold. The roast potatoes were overcooked, tiny, and impossible to cut in half. We paid extra for cauliflower cheese, but there wasn’t even a floret on the dish, just bits. It was appalling. We did get some money off the bill, but it’s such a shame. I don’t know what’s changed with the staff, but we’ll never go back.
