Sutherland House

We slept well in this quiet house, with very little traffic noise. Mary kept checking if we needed anything else, and served breakfast made to order in a dining room filled with fine furniture, pictures and silverware. There was also a fully stocked honesty bar.

We usually stay in hotels, so this was our first B&B in years, and it was a wonderful reintroduction. Mary was a lovely, helpful hostess, and the breakfast was perfect. We had to leave early on Saturday for a channel crossing, and she served breakfast well before the usual time. The house and furnishings have Edwardian charm, and everything was spotlessly clean and comfortable. Parking off road was convenient and secure, and it was very good value. We couldn't make use of the impressive honesty bar, comfortable lounge or attractive garden because of other commitments, but we'll certainly return when we next visit Deal.

The owners are very friendly, and the rooms are clean with comfortable bedding. Breakfast was well cooked and presented. There's an honour bar where you serve yourself a drink and record it in a book to pay later. We sat in the garden every night with a bottle of wine until sunset.

The garden was lovely, and the honesty bar seemed like a good idea, though we didn't use it. Our room had everything we needed and the bed was really comfortable. Some parts of the room looked a bit worn, and the headboard could've done with a clean or maybe replacing. Breakfast was limited, but the toast and tea were excellent. For the same price, we've had better standards at other B&Bs in Deal.
