Thistle Hotel

The food was good quality and very reasonably priced, and the staff were fantastic. The hotel was clean and comfortable too. We decided at the last minute to come back at the end of our holiday and were treated as special guests of the day, with sweets and a free drink. We’ll definitely stay again before our next holiday.

The room was clean and comfortable, with plenty of towels, tea and coffee. I had trouble getting any sleep at first because the elderly couple next door were drunk, with the TV blaring and both of them talking loudly. I think they’d forgotten their hearing aids. When I asked reception to speak to them, the woman kicked off. The staff kindly moved me to a quieter room, which was a huge relief and let me get a few hours’ sleep before my 1am flight. Thanks to Harry for sorting that out so quickly. The food was the real problem. I ordered pesto pasta, and it was overcooked and falling apart, unsalted, and sitting in a pool of oil and pasta water. I paid an extra £5 for chicken and got about two tablespoons of it, finely diced. It wasn’t inedible, but at £22, plus £5 for an apple juice, I expected more. The portions were small too, and extra chips cost enough to feel like taking out a mortgage. If you stay here, have a look on Uber Eats.

Everything else was fine, and the 5-10 minute walk to the terminal is ideal. But the room wasn’t the cleanest, with crumbs on the desk when I arrived. Also, there’s no lift, so you have to carry your suitcase up a flight of stairs. Not ideal for an airport hotel.

We were through security within 15 minutes of leaving the hotel with our bags, and we’d checked our hold luggage in the night before. The location is perfect for flying early. Reception gave us a warm welcome, and our room was brilliant, large, clean and had everything we needed. We also had a delicious bar meal with a very good sized portion, served by excellent staff. We stayed one night before our flight.
