The staff were friendly and did what they could to help, and the family room itself was clean, a decent size, and had a modern bathroom. But at £120 a night, it felt overpriced given what we ran into. We’d emailed beforehand to ask whether the travel cot for our two-year-old came with a mattress, so we could avoid bringing our own. We were told it did, but the cot wasn’t in the room at first. When it arrived, it only had the hard base, not a mattress. The hotel should say clearly on its website that guests need to bring their own mattress and cot quilt. Reception tried to help, and my son slept on a double quilt folded up, with the quilt I’d brought from home. There were also wet floor signs and buckets in the corridor after a leak. We were told it was fixed and they just wanted us to know about the appearance, but we had to walk about five metres over soaked carpet that squelched underfoot with our two- and five-year-olds. I’ve no idea how dirty the water was, so everyone took their shoes off at the room door. It didn’t affect the room itself, but made the hotel seem grubby and unsuitable with young children.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and there was plenty of parking. It’s a ten-minute drive from the racecourse. Our room was comfortable and warm, with clean towels, though the twin beds were a little narrow. Breakfast was okay if you wanted a cooked meal, but there wasn’t another choice. They only offered juice on the second morning.

The all-you-can-eat breakfast was the worst I’ve had. The shower room was covered in mould, and the rooms were small. The window was behind the bed, so there wasn’t a view. I asked reception for extra pillows, but they never arrived.

The staff were great and did their best, even though the kitchen had to close in the morning because of a separate problem and there was no cooked breakfast. The night before, our rooms also had no water. Neither issue was the staff’s fault. When everything is working, this is a good, inexpensive place to stay and eat. It’s well placed for Doncaster and the surrounding area.

Pleasant staff and a nice place, but I was freezing in the room. There was an electric wall heater and an oil heater in the wardrobe, and even with both on, cold air was coming through the window seal, about a gale at -3°C. If you stay here, take a couple of thick sleeping bags.
