We only stopped for one night and I was glad to leave. The location is handy, right by the A1 northbound. For southbound travel, book Blythe instead, though it’s a bit of a drive between the two lodges. On arrival this place felt neglected and rundown, and I worried about the car in the car park. Reception were friendly, but it’s an old-style lodge with keys, and the inside door lock had been removed. The room smelled strongly of drugs and the heater kept cutting out. It was quiet and we did sleep, but the smell and missing extra lock made us anxious. The car was fine in the morning, but I wouldn’t stay again. There’s a Gregs and Burger King with seating, plus a small Costcutter at the petrol station with a Costa coffee machine, Pot Noodles, John West salads, and the usual cakes, biscuits and sweets. Some of the 5 star reviews here aren’t for this lodge. There’s no M & S on this side, and this lodge is not 5 star.

The Moto services next door has a service station along with M+S Food, KFC, BK, WH Smith, Costa Coffee and Greggs. The area itself is really clean and well maintained, and the staff are great and friendly.

A lovely stay, and coffee was available in the room. There were only two teabags when I arrived, though, and no USB connectors, so remember to bring a USB plug.

When I visit family in South Yorkshire, this is the only place I stay. It's in a good spot with easy access to several motorways, and there are plenty of fast food choices nearby, plus WH Smiths, M and S Food, Costa and Greggs. The rooms are basic, but they're always clean and comfortable. Staff are friendly and efficient.
